Only use electrical test tools that have been evaluated by a third party independent test lab and certified to survive high voltage transients. Standards bodies set the standards for test tool safety, but they aren’t responsible for enforcing their standards. That means that a test tool can list a rating such as CAT III 1000 V without ever having been tested by a lab to verify that it really does protect the user against the transients present in that environment.
