PRESS RELEASE : FLUKE Donates Thermal Imagers to Teach Families Importance of Energy Efficiency, Sustainability

Everett, Wash. – Continuing its commitment to educating the public on the importance of energy efficiency and sustainability in homes and buildings, Fluke Corporation has donated two of its innovative Ti55FT Thermal Imagers to The Discovery Museums in Acton, Mass. for its new “Dream Green” exhibit which opened January 28, 2011. The goal of “Dream Green” is to teach area children to view the home as an architect or designer would and to explain the science behind home insulation, energy consumption and conservation by utilizing infrared imaging technology in fun, interactive exhibits.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide technology for such a great educational initiative,” says Kirsten Paust, Fluke Thermography general manager. “The Ti55FT Thermal Imager is innovative, easy-to-use and fun. We’re pleased these tools will be utilized to educate our next generation of builders, architects, designers, engineers and homeowners.”

Fluke’s Ti55FT handheld imagers will be featured in the centerpiece of the exhibit, called Reinvent Your House. This portion of the exhibition encourages families to build models of homes and buildings using a variety of materials that each conduct heat and energy differently. Families are encouraged to use the thermal imaging tools to capture an infrared image of their structures to understand how and why heat can escape from areas such as windows, doors and roofs. The thermal images will be paired with other displays that provide information on what tools and actions can be used to better insulate homes or save energy.

“The Fluke thermal imagers include large, high resolution screens that provide easy analysis of where hot and cold spots originate,” continues Paust. “Also, children will enjoy taking colorful, thermal images of themselves to see how their own bodies emit heat, and how their clothes and actions can control body temperature.”

The Discovery Museums were founded in 1982 and are based in Acton, Mass. Its mission is to inspire enduring curiosity and love of learning through interactive discovery, hands-on inquiry and scientific investigation. The museums serve nearly 140,000 people annually, 25,000 of that include outreach programs in schools throughout the Boston metro area. Since 2004, Fluke has been offering a range of thermal imagers designed and optimized for use in building diagnostics and energy-efficiency audits.
