PRESS RELEASE : Fluke 6100A helps manufacturers build products that perform in Low-uncertainty source of electrical power signals for an uncertain world

EVERETT, WA - Fluke Corporation, the world's leading supplier of test and measurement equipment, announced today that the Fluke 6100A Electrical Power Standard performs all the tests and measurements stipulated under the new IEC 61000-4-30 Power Quality Standard. Manufacturers of utility power system and power test and measurement equipment can rely on the Fluke 6100A to help them design products that comply with the standard.

Adopted earlier this year, the IEC 61000-4-30 standard establishes power quality parameters for power frequency, magnitude of supply voltage, flicker, supply voltage dips and swells, voltage interruptions, transient voltages, supply voltage unbalance, voltage and current harmonics and inter-harmonics, mains signaling on the supply voltage and rapid voltage changes. The need for this new standard was driven largely by the growth of undesirable power supply phenomena including harmonic distortion, noise and transients, and sags and swells.

Designed for manufacturers of power quality measurement equipment as well as certification bodies who provide primary measurement support and/or traceability, utilities and large power users, and design engineers, the Fluke 6100A is a multi-phase, highly accurate, and reliable source of phantom electrical power signals and power disturbances. Consisting of a master unit, which provides the first phase and auxiliary units that provide up to three additional phases controlled through the master unit, the Fluke 6100A mimics harmonic distortions, user-definable sags, swells and flicker - one at a time or simultaneously. It also is configurable to the differing power voltages and frequencies that have been adopted globally, enabling the user to select relevant values for the measurements being made. The Windows® user interface provides familiar commands and settings, reducing the training required for user fluency.

Scalable and simple, yet highly accurate, the Fluke 6100A is the ideal standard for power meters, power factor meters, power quality analyzers, power recorders, and power meters with quality measurement capabilities.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the leading global organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies, facilitating world trade by removing technical barriers. Using IEC standards for certification at the national level ensures that a certified product has been manufactured and type-tested to well established international standards. The end user can be sure that the product meets minimum (usually high) quality standards, and need not be concerned with further testing or evaluation of the product.
