The McKinstry Recipe for Commissioning Success

The McKinstry Recipe for Commissioning Success

Commissioning involves verifying all design and performance characteristics of a mechanical system:

Installation verification

  • Make sure the right equipment got installed

in the right place

  • Verify that the equipment is installed per specification, manufacturer requirements and best practices

Equipment start up

  • Confirm operation on initial start up: amps, volts, temps, pressure, flow, etc.

Confirm calibration of controls and sensors

  • Temp
  • Pressure
  • Flow

Test equipment function

  • Stand-alone operation
  • Interface with other system components
  • Redundancy/failure testing
  • Integrated system testing—for instance, simulating a power failure to the building to ensure the generator fires up, fuel system works, and all affected equipment rides through the transfer in/out of emergency power
